This book has 5 sections. The first section is a biography of the composer's life. The second section is a list of the composer's works. The works are arranged by subject (vocal, instrumental, etc.) and then cited alphabetically by title of composition. Following each title is (if known) the premier of the work and other selected performances, including reference to commentaries from reviews of each performance. The third section is an annotated bibliography of writings by and about Ester Ballou. For reviews of her music cited in this section, the author quotes only those portions of the reviews which refer directly to her music. Each entry is assigned an entry number preceded by the designation B for Bibliography. The author has also identified those writings that contain photographs of the composer. The last two sections are appendixes and indexes containing a discography, lists of interviews and other audio sources on Ballou, a self-evaluation by the composer, a list of the compositions by Ballou arranged alphabetically, and a list of her compositions arranged chronologically.
