Resource organized into a foreword, four chapters, seven lists, and an index. The foreword is written by David Matthews, briefly discussing Milner's career and teaching capabilities. Chapter 1 is a biography surveying the composer's career and music, dividing its discussion between Life and Work sections. Compositions are cross-referenced to Chapters 2-4. Chapter 2 is a Works and Performance list, with entries prefixed by the letter W. Entries are classified into genre categories and then organized alphabetically by title. Entries on instrumental works provide information on opus number, date of completion, publishers, duration, dedications, commission, scoring, and remarks. Entries on instrumental works provide the above information as well as authors, sources, and titles of texts. Chapter 3 is a bibliography, entries prefixed by the letter B. Entries B1 through B68 are writings published by Milner. Items B69 through B381 are writings about Milner. Entries are organized chronologically in approximately according to this system: all books published in a given year, all magazines dated for January of that year, all weekly and daily publications for January 1 to 31, all magazines dated for February of that year, all weekly and daily publications from February 1 to 28/29 and so forth through December 1 to 31. Within each year-month-date subsection, references are integrated alphabetically by author's name or article title in the case of anonymous authors. Entries are annotated, but do not always provide complete biographical information. Chapter 4 is a discography, with entries prefixed by the letter D. Entries are organized in approximately chronological order and give record label number, title, production date, and a list of performers. Entries are cross-referenced to Chapter 2. List 1 is a list of lectures for Spring Tours of North America, 1964-1987, organized into five topical groups according to the brochures publicizing each tour. List 2 is a list of institutions visited on Spring Lecture Tours of North America, listed alphabetically by location. List 3 is a list of other lectures and courses taught in Britain and North America, listed in chronological order. List 4 is a list of works in order of opus number. List 5 is a list of works in alphabetical order. List 6 is a list of works announced but never completed in alphabetical order. List 7 is a list of authors and sources of texts of vocal works and score inscriptions, integrated alphabetically by author and title. It concludes with an index of names of places, alphabetically integrated. There are three black-and-white images located throughout the book: a photograph of the composer and one page from two scores.

The foreword is written by David Matthews, one of Milner's composition pupils. The unique feature of this resource is the lists of Milner's touring lectures. The user's guide is indispensable for deciphering the method of organization used in the bibliography.
-
The letter-numbering system is helpful for immediately identifying the type of item found in the index. Discography is presumably outdated. Typography and formatting of entries in the bibliography is tiring because the citation and the annotation are indistinguishable from each other without reading the entire block of text. Organization of the bibliography is incredibly awkward, though explained in the user's guide.
