Cockey, Linda. Annotated Bibliography on Musician Wellness. American Music Teacher 49 (June-July 2000): 54-62.
-
In the introduction, the author writes: The bibliography's purpose is to provide a quick resource tool for teachers and students to address the prevention of medical problems, performance preparation, stage fright, healthy practice techniques and physiological and psychological issues.
-
The author sought to include easy-to-obtain sources. Coverage is not limited by geographic location, but modern is key in this kind of research and so there are no sources earlier than the 1990s. Websites, videos, books, and journals are referenced.
-
It is organized alphabetically by author or if there is no specific author, title, organized under these headings: books/pamphlets, videos, new periodicals, professional organizations, and web sites. The general information included is the author, date of publication, title, publisher, current publisher's address, phone and/or fax if available, e-mail and web site information if available, number of pages, and ISBN number. Specific information includes: a brief description of the content of the book, journal, web site or video, the intended audience (addressing value for the instrumentalist, keyboardist and/or vocalist), the approach and specific techniques, general research information and bibliography and/or end notes, if included in the book, as well as a general viewer evaluation.
-
Very thorough. More information than necessary in the bibliography itself, and an abstract that includes specific information for each chapter. Although not comprehensive, it is an excellent source for topics having to do with musician wellness.
