La España musical (Barcelona)
-
Subtitled artistic, literary, theatrical weekly, it is dedicated to the promotion of musical art and totally unrelated to politics, being its editor and owner Andrés Vidal y Roger, who will also direct it after Eduardo Canals. It was published on Thursdays in four-page editions. Later it will change its subtitle to published by the Casa Vidal. It contains reviews of shows offered in the theatres of Barcelona and other cities, of Italian opera, zarzuela, poetry, dance, etc. It gives an account of music instruction establishments, orchestras, musical bands, choral societies, lyric centres, instrument factories, teachers, etc. It includes essays and articles on critics and on artists and singers. Other sections are those of variety, with news of current events, and another of commercial announcements. It has correspondents in Paris, Milan and London, and J.L. Obiols y Tapias offers its weekly correspondence or chronicle from Madrid. Other collaborators are Andrés Parera and José Marraco, and other texts are signed with initials or a pseudonym. From number 20, of May 24th 1866, he took charge of the subscriptions of The Critique and its director became editor of The Musical Spain. From issue 29 onwards, he published a bulletin with biographies of distinguished musicians from all countries, under the direction of Antonio Fargas y Soler. It was still published in 1876.
