La Iberia musical y literaria
-
It was the first Spanish musical journal, which had begun to be published on January 1, 1842 under the title La iberia musical and which, as of September 4 of that same year, expanded its title, beginning new numbering and indicating that it was the second series. It is now subtitled weekly of the literati, of the artists, of the societies and of the theatres, and directed by a society of literati and teachers of music, being its founder, owner and director the composer Joaquín Espín y Guillén (1812 -1881). It publishes articles on history, teaching and music criticism, with national, foreign and local chronicles (Teatro del Príncipe, Teatro Circo, other concerts, etc.), a section on criticism and literary creation (poems, ballads, epigrams, etc.) for which Gregorio Romero Larrañaga was responsible, as well as biographies of Spanish and foreign composers, varieties and advertisements. He also continues to publish music and singing scores and piano and a collection of engravings of portraits of distinguished artists. From its pages, Spanish operatic creation was advocated. Among its editors, besides its director, are Mariano Soriano Fuertes (its co-founder), Indalecio Soriano Fuertes and Domingo Vila, among others. In the literary part, Miguel Agustín Príncipe, Juan Martínez Villegas, Ramón de Campoamor, José Zorrilla, Santiago Masernau, José María Reart, Eugenio Hartzenbusch, Bretón de los Herreros, Carolina Coronado, Lucía del Cano, Eulogio Florentino Sanz, Teodoro Guerrero, Francisco Montemar, Urrabieta and Fr. There were also correspondents in the provinces and in some foreign capitals. It continues to appear weekly, on Sundays, in eight-page numbers and in two columns, now in the Printer's Office of the Spanish Panorama. Since 1844 it has appeared on Thursdays and Sundays. It will also be subtitled as a philharmonic newspaper and gazette of the theatres, continuing as a fundamentally musical magazine dedicated, especially, to stage music. In 1846 it regained its original title, La iberia musical, with an irregular periodicity, and later adopted that of Gaceta de los teatros, and most probably continued to be published until 1849.
