The author expresses the view that an educator must be fully aware of the culture in which he is working, including social values, customs, conditions, and institutions, in order to be effective in his work. Proceeding from this view the author examines the cultural level of Egypt, specifically concentrating on the topic of sex. In discussing the status of women and the relation between the sexes, the author states there have been several significant factors in women's progress toward freedom: I) The rise of modernism in religion since the beginning of the century. 2) The rise of nationalism, especially since the revolution of 1919. 3) The spread of modern education for both girls and boys. 4) The economic development of the country. In addition, the author approaches the existence of male superiority, providing examples of its manifestation, conservative and reactionary supporters of it
