This book gives a descriptive view of women's life in Persia in the late 1800's, based on both the observations of the author and testimony of others. The author explains the role women played in Persian poetry, romantic mythology, literature, and song. He then describes the life of women from infancy to death. He portrays baby life of the women to be not over two years, during which time the female baby was treated much like an animal. Where there was joy at the birth of a son, a father could not recognize the child if it was a daughter. Yonan then gives a picture of child life, maiden life, wedding and ceremonial of marriage contracts, and marriage laws. In describing the married life of a girl, he states that the woman had very little, if anything, to do with her husband's affairs.
