This book examines the paradigmatic example of the Strange Woman and her counterpart in Proverbs, the female personification of Wisdom, and then turns these two figures as a hermeneutical lens onto narrative texts where issues of strangeness--whether of gender, ethnicity, sexuality or cultic activity--predominate. This reading strategy serves two purposes. It produces a series of deconstructive literary readings, which in turn provide a view into the ideological tenstions of the post-exilic period.
