Handwritten autobiography and a photocopy of the item. McBride was born in England, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his parents in 1856, and migrated to Utah. McBride writes about migrating to Utah in the ill-fated handcart company led by Edward Martin. He tells about the hardships he and his family faced. "We used to pray that we might die to get out of our misery." In Utah, McBride lived in Ogden, Provo, and Huntsville. He served as a scout during the Black Hawk War against the Ute Indians.
