Casey comes from a\rfamily with 13 children. His parents also had several siblings. Stories like this one have been passed through the family for generations. The most common source of most of these are Casey’s Uncle Andy, who was known for his storytelling.
-
I was visiting Casey at his home. He was sitting in his recliner, watching TV when he started telling old stories from his Uncle Andy. I asked if I could write one of them down, which he allowed me to do.

Rattlesnakes are a common predator in Southern Idaho. Their venom causes the area around the bite to swell and become painful. When the pioneers were settling the Western United States, they often found themselves fending off rattlesnakes from their settlements. A wagon tongue is a long wooden piece that attaches a wagon to the horse or oxen pulling it.
