The informant has a fondness for obscene and ironic stories, as is evidenced here. Her colorful style underlies much of this artifact. The item is also interesting in that it reflects her preoccupations as a fluent speaker of Spanish.
-
This artifact was collected while the informant was taking a break from homework and was sharing bizarre and interesting stories she had read about or heard from friends. I was at her apartment when I collected the item, and happened to have my laptop with me so it was easy to just record her sharing her folk-experiences.
-
The humor of the story depends on the audience having a basic knowledge of Spanish and being able to understand the difference between the Spanish word for "excited" and "sexually aroused," despite the fact that they sound similar. Likewise the audience needs to understand this relationship between the Spanish words for\r"embarrassed" and "pregnant." Fortunately the informant provides glosses in her narrative.
