Informant enjoys traveling and taking pictures and has been to various Indian reservations in Alaska, Arizona, and Wyoming. Story acquired at a camp out on such a trip.
-
Camille told me this story while hanging out at her house. I knew she traveled a lot and enjoyed visiting national parks, so I asked her if she had heard any cool stories amongst her travels. This is the account she gave.
-
I was told this story in a casual hang out session while hanging out on the couch. This may account for some of the casual language in it, and the rather basic structure to the story, but it was fun to hear and swap stories while discussing things of interest (folklore and past travels).

Devil's, Tower, Bear, Indian, stars
-
Text was collected through a video recording of Camille recounting the story. \r"Like" and "Uhs" were edited out as it was transcribed.\rItem: Devil's Tower, you know how it's in Wyoming, have you seen pictures of it and how it's striated on the side? Apparently, there were these two Indian girls that were being chased by a bear, and they climbed up onto this rock, and the bear was REALLY mad. And it was a giant bear, and it started clawing at the side, but he could never get to the top. He clawed so much that it created the tower. Then they were stuck up there though. I think it was two or three little Indian girls.\rThen they turned into stars, and there are the three stars that are named after them. Well, I guess not named after them. The Indians believe that the stars ARE them. And that's how Devil's Tower was created.
