This is a story she collected from another folklore archive.

Aunt Melanie, my Mom's older sister, is visiting Utah from Oregon, gathering with much of the extended family to attend my cousin's wedding that weekend. As a child, I always loved her stories and the exaggerated, interesting, beautiful ways she told them. I told her about the assignment and asked if she would be willing to retell some of my favorite stories, Stan Bolovan being one of them. So after dinner she and I went into the family room and she told me the story. She first told me some family history stories, and then I asked specifically about this one.
-
Storytelling was a defining aspect of my years growing up around extended family on my Mom's side. Aunt Melanie\ralways told the most vivid stories. She collects and looks for new stories to tell herself. My cousins and I would ask her to retell our favorite stories, although she stated at the time of collection that it had been years since she had told this story and that might explain why she had to correct herself on a couple of details (those corrections, filler words and sound effects are included as an authentic aspect of the natural storytelling flow).

I was the only one listening at first, but after a while my 5-year-old brother wandered in. He was an appreciative audience, and she stood up to tell the story properly and made it very exciting. It is transcribed exactly as spoken, with no filler words or repetitions edited out.
