Janeen is a Senior at BYU, working toward her English Major. She enjoys reading, writing, and running. I met Janeen because we attended the same church congregation our Junior year, and my friendship with Mac (her fiancé) helped me befriend her.
-
Janeen is also in my Folklore class. She and her husband Mac were in my ward before they got married, and so I figured they'd be the best place to start collecting. After all, Janeen would understand the struggle of finding good informants and items. We agreed to meet at their home in Provo, so I showed up on a Saturday night. They'd prepared a few extra cookies and treats for me, which I appreciated. We ended up sitting around a small wooden table in their kitchen, where first Janeen, and then Mac, shared their stories. Both were in the room with each other.

BYU-I Track system – While most colleges have four semesters a year, and students can pick whichever semesters they'd like to attend, BYU-Idaho has three distinct semesters throughout the year. Students are assigned a ‘track,' which assigns them two different semesters to attend. \rPriesthood blessing – As described in the Bible, members of the church believe in laying on of hands, and call these experiences blessings. Generally, blessings are given when the recipient is sick, or when the recipient is in need of guidance or comfort. Mormons believe the spoken word, delivered off the cuff during the blessing, comes directly from God.\rStudy abroad – Some university students participate in study abroad, which gives them the chance to take University classes in a foreign country.\rMissions – Young male members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, otherwise known as Mormons, are encouraged to spend two years of their life (generally between the ages of 18-27) travelling to a specific locale in the world to preach the Gospel. Young female members are also encouraged to go if they feel a mission would suit them. Male missions last for two years, while female missions last for a year and a half. Any romantic relationships are strictly forbidden during this period.

Breakups, dating, marriage, BYU-Idaho, crying
-
Ok, so I was at BYU-Idaho, and I was dating a guy named Alex, and, um, with BYU-Idaho they have the track systems which, um, you're either there for two thirds of the year, and so I was at BYU-Idaho and he was back at home, so we were dating long distance, and, we just kind of grew apart. We were trying to Skype each other, but just grew further apart, and\rI, I got kinda mad cuz I, cuz I could kind of tell he was wanting to break it up, but he wasn't, um, telling me anything, he was just avoiding it and just wanted to let it fizzle without, like, actually talking about it, and so, finally, I called him, and I think he had something, so he set up the time and he called back, and I just remember going outside my apartment complex, and we talked on the phone, and then pretty much, just knew it was coming, and I was OK with it, but I was just mad that he didn't want to talk about it. I needed closure, and so, yeah, so we just had a phone conversation and we broke up and then, it, I kind of saw it coming, but I was still sad, so I remember just going on a long drive afterwards. Yeah, and then … yeah, I cried, and then, I think my Dad even offered to drive up to Rexburg to give me a priesthood blessing to comfort me, but I can't remember if that happened or not, but, yeah, and, but then it worked out because right after that I went\ron my study abroad and then after that I went on my mission and then I came to BYU and that's where I met Mac, my husband.
