Daniel grew up in a small town in Southwest Idaho called Glenns Ferry. His grandfather, George Freeman Shrum, was a Chevy Dealer in Glenns Ferry and was well known in the region.
-
This story is usually told by my dad to my nuclear family, and is usually prompted by any conversational bringing up Ernest Hemmingway as an author. Another time that the story is usually told is whenever our family brings up our former family cabin which was built in the early 20th century in Ketchum, Idaho. Near the end of the 20th century, the family sold the cabin and later was informed that the buyer had the cabin demolished.
-
The two characters in the story are Ernest Hemmingway, the 20th century American author; and my great grandfather, George Freeman Shrum also known by his nickname of "Skete."
